Alan Doig is Professor of Fraud Management at Teesside Business School,
University of Teesside. He is author of numerous publications on ethics,
conflicts of interest, fraud and corruption.
Foundation Deanship of Law at Griffith University, where he founded and directed the National Institute for Law, Ethics and Public Affairs. In 1997, he was elected the Visiting Senior Research Fellow at St John's College, Oxford. Professor Sampford has written over 50 articles and chapters in Australian and foreign journals and collections and has completed 11 books. At the same time, he has worked as a part-time company director and chairman, gaining insights into the operation of Australian and international business that are valuable in his work as an applied ethicist. He has also played a central role in the establishment of the International Institute for Public Ethics, an international association of public ethics practitioners, of which he is the Vice President. Professor Sampford has been consulted by business, government and several parliamentary committees - most notably the Queensland Scrutiny of Legislation Committee, for which he has been the principal legal adviser since 1995. He has advised the Nolan Committee on Standards in Public Life and the Lord Chancellor's Committee on Legal Education and Professional Conduct in the United Kingdom. In September 1998, he went to Indonesia on a special mission for the World Bank to advise the Indonesian government on governance reforms to deal with corruption.
